IN PARTNERSHIP WITH Aspen Marketing

Aspen Marketing came to us with an animation concept for their new paperless campaign. We created one for Land Rover and one for Jaguar. They asked us to create animations that combined origami with line-drawn sketch backgrounds- a style hoping to reinforce the idea of going paperless to its consumers.

For Land Rover’s paperless billing campaign, we were asked to create animations of their vehicle out of paper using origami folding techniques. By creating a world made out of paper with pencil-sketched backgrounds, it emphasized to consumers the idea that paperless is better. To bring this world to life, our design team actually crafted real origami paper models to determine how to build the models and folds accurately and effectively in 3D. The client didn’t want the animations to skip any steps, and for the origami to really feel like it’s folding the same as it would if it was literal paper.

We reverse-engineered the origami and built the vehicles as 3D-rigged, animated models. We composited the client’s service report papers onto the 3D models and animated the line-drawn environments/scenes behind the vehicle. In post, we experimented to create the illusion of a stop-motion frame rate, such as discoloring each frame so they all looked traditionally shot. This attention to detail helped create an illustration of the real thing and resulted in one of our favorite works
